Amy Cook

HR Consultant

Amy has held a range of HR roles in a wide variety of industries with a significant period of her career spent in publicly funded research institutes within higher education organisations.

Amy started her career as a recruitment consultant, which sparked an interest in HR, and she subsequently moved into a generalist HR role in 2012. In the private sector, Amy worked in the HR teams of a range of businesses where she gained extensive experience in all stages of the employee lifecycle.  She worked at IT service provider Computacenter, business consultancy Exemplas and retailer Tesco Stores where she had a key focus on reward and benefit.

Amy then moved into the public sector into an HR Management role for a publicly funded research unit where she managed the HR team and was involved in the TUPE of the institute into the University of Cambridge. Within this role Amy was responsible for coaching Line Managers, managing the employee relations caseload and for the lifecycle of the cohort of PhD students that joined each year.

Most recently, Amy was Deputy Head of HR at MRC London Institute of Medical Science, another publicly funded research institute, where she managed the HR team. She was involved in the more complex employee relations case work, supported strategic organisational planning and was a founding member of the institute’s Wellbeing Committee, as well as being a key member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Forum and was actively working towards the renewal application and action plan of the STEM and HE gender equality charter, Athena SWAN.

Amy has a BSc (Hons) degree in Neuroscience and holds the CIPD Level 7.
